Travelling within Kuala Lumpur - Other public transportation
Other public transportation
Kuala Lumpur's public transport system is smooth and efficient. There are plenty of buses plying through the city. Rapid KL and Metrobus are the two major operators in the city.
Tourists usually prefer the Rapid KL buses as they have the destinations clearly mentioned and have reasonable charges. Purchasing an all-day ticket is a good and convenient option for those planning to spend the day getting around the city. It costs between RM 4 – RM 7.
The KL Hop on – Hop off bus gives the traveller a detailed guided tour of the city with multi-lingual tour commentaries to choose from. These buses operate 24 hours a day and are a good option to explore the city.
The Light Rail Transit (LRT) operates from 6:00 am to 11:45 pm and connects various destinations within the city and its outskirts. While the PUTRA LRT connects the eastern and western parts of the city, the STAR system connects the central part of Kuala Lumpur with Klang Valley and other areas.
Taxis are another way of travelling within the city. Taxis are available over phone, and from taxi stands. Taxis run on metres and there is a surchage of 50% after midnight, till 6:00 am. Fares start at RM2.
Kuala Lumpur can also be explored on foot. With good street signs and city maps in place, it is quite easy to find one’s way. However, pavements get flooded during rains.
