Kuala Lumpur has a wide collection of souvenirs and local products to offer the shopper. Carpets and rugs of lustrous silk and fine wool are a popular buy. It is also a good place for buying designer collections, footwear, watches and quality fabrics. Electronic equipment, computers and cameras can also be found at competitive prices.
Bukit Bintang and Suria KLCC, Kuala Lumpur's most popular shopping areas are filled with malls selling branded goods. These malls are lined with flagship stores of international designer brands along with boutique shops selling everything from handmade clothing to contemporary fashion wear.
The traditional Pasar Malam, the night market is one of the best places to sample local fare at cheap prices.
Petaling Street in Chinatown is lined up with Chinese, Nepalese and Burmese hawkers selling everything from designer t-shirts to herbal medicines. This place also abounds in fake label merchandise.
Close by is Jalan Masjid, Little India the place where one can find sarees and other Bollywood inspired Indian dresses. Parallel to Jalan Masjid is Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman lined up with shops selling oriental antiques, jewellery and fabrics studded with shiny beads and sequins.
The Craft Cultural Complex located at Jalan Conlay is famous for traditional handicrafts sourced from different parts of the country. Shops here offer a variety of textiles, clothes, shoes, jewellery and handbags at bargain prices.
These streets become lively at night with hawkers setting up stalls offering a diverse range of products from ethnic goods, clothing and cosmetics to fake designer watches. The bright lights from the shops and stalls combine with blaring music to lend the Pasar Malam (Night Markets) a festive carnival air.
