The Kuala Lumpur Sentral station operates services to different parts of Malaysia and also connects to Singapore and Thailand. Services run daily to Singapore, Butterworth and Hat Yai.
Trains travel on a single track built during the colonial times, past palm plantations. Kuala Lumpur's Sentral Station, which serves long distance trains has a left-luggage counter and VIP lounge for 1st class passengers.
From Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, daytime trains take nearly 6 hours while overnight sleeper trains take 8 hrs and tickets cost around USD 10.
Also Ekspress Rakyat, Malaysia’s luxury express offers daily service in this route. These are air-conditioned and passengers have the option of choosing between 1st class and 2nd class.
Trains are also available from Butterworth, in Penang, to Kuala Lumpur which take around 6-8 hours and ticket prices are similar.
From Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur can be reached via Butterworth on the International Express. A restaurant car is available on board for breakfast and dinner.
