Kyoto is officially the second most popular tourist destination after Tokyo in Japan, but personally I feel this is the best tourist spot in Japan. It is so scenic and beautiful, one would get easily owned by this city.
Kyoto served as Japan's capital and the emperor's residence from 794 until 1868. It is now the country's seventh largest city with a population of 1.4 million people and a modern face.Over the centuries, Kyoto was destroyed by many wars and fires, but due to its historic value, the city was dropped from the list of target cities for the atomic bomb and spared from air raids during World War II. Countless temples, shrines and other historically priceless structures survive in the city today.
Food, sight-seeing and shopping
Kyoto has many places which are not to be missed, it is home for countless temples, shrine and palaces. It is divided into four regions, Northern, Eastern, Western and Southern, each different from another. My personal favorite is Arashiyama in Western Kyoto, a very scenic place, where the bamboo path is a must see. The moss gardens in the Western Kyoto are also a big attraction.
Kinkakuji, Ginkakuji, Nijo Castle and Kyoto Imperial Palace are also big attractions in Kyoto.
Activities & things to do
