The Bonifacio Shrine was built to display the biography of Andrés Bonifacio y de Castro. A renowned Philippine Revolutionary hero, he was the founder of the Katipunan organisation that started an independence movement against Spain.
He was the leader of the Philippine Revolution in the late 19th century. Due to his contributions, he was named as the Father of the Philippine Revolution.
