The island of Maupiti is the smallest island in the Society Islands of French Polynesia. It has several options for tourists across different categories of things to do.
Apart from having fun at places like Tereia beach on Motu Tiapaa, one can also check out the Ancient Maaraes and other sites that stand out for their historical importance. Some of these are the temple of Mahaiatea, petroglyphs found in Haranae valley and Maarae Vaiahu.
Mount Teurafaatiu and Mount Hotu Paraoa are interesting not only for sightseeing but also for hiking. In addition to sightseeing and hiking, one can also indulge in activities like snorkelling, diving, kayaking, whale and dolphin sighting, along with lagoon excursions.
Whale and dolphin watching can be engaged in only during the period starting from the middle of July to October.
In order to combine fun and learning, one can try out eco-snorkelling. This activity can also be tried by children, above the age of six.
Although there are several things one can do for entertainment in Maupiti, there are not many places for shopping or eating in the area. |
