Rich in flora and fauna and abundant in open spaces, the small Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal has immense scope for outdoor activities. Among the popular activities of the region are adventure sports, aerial sports, aquatic sports and others.
Adventure tourism has been an essential part of Nepal, which offers outdoor activities like trekking, hiking and mountain climbing. Of the 153 Himalayan peaks open to mountaineers, 135 are for mountaineering while the remaining 18 cater to trekkers.
Nepal is famous for various aerial activities, primarily paragliding in the Annapurna region and bungee jumping from the bridge over Bhote Koshi River. Mountain flights from Kathmandu to Pokhara provide a closer view of Mt. Everest. Hot-air ballooning, mainly in the Kathmandu Valley is another popular activity.
White water rafting, kayaking, canoeing and fishing can be done in the rivers and lakes of Nepal. Popular rivers for water activities include Trisuli, Kali Gandaki and Karnali. Other activities like golfing and bird watching can be done primarily in the Terai Region. Chitwan, Nepal's natural wonder is popular for jungle and elephant safaris.
Tourists can also opt for other adventure sports like mountain biking, horse riding, hang-gliding and ice climbing. Canyoning, which involves abseiling, sliding, jumping and climbing down canyon walls alongside waterfalls in the Himalayan region, is another popular activity.
