Eateries in the city range from roadside pushcart vendors to fine dining establishments. Owing to the diverse ethnic communities residing in the city, variety of ethnic delicacies, including  Italian, East European, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Middle Eastern and Caribbean, to name a few, are available. Trendier restaurants are commonly found in Manhattan’s Times Square.

One of the culinary capitals of the world, New York City has innumerable eating options like hot corned beef on rye, matzo ball soup and chopped liver, etc. Steakhouse restaurants are highly popular with the tourists. Many eateries in the city also serve Cantonese, Szechuan and Shanghai cuisine.

Budget restaurants are found in Manhattan’s Lower East Side and Chinatown. In addition to these, numerous delis also dot the city. Pushcart vendors and trucks serve street food in the city. Pushcarts on city sidewalks and in parks sell hotdogs topped with mustard, ketchup or other toppings. Corned beef or pastrami sandwich is another popular dish served on the streets of the city. New York pizza, served with a variety of toppings, is another famous food of the city.

New York Cheesecake made using heavy cream, cream cheese, eggs and egg yolks is another popular delicacy. Chocolate Egg Cream, or New York Egg Cream, is a blend of chocolate syrup, milk, and seltzer water. Bourbon-spiked Greenmarket Cider and the Peanut Butter Parfait are other items. Vegan-friendly dining options are found in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan.
