Non-immigrant visa is required by tourists to visit New York. Depending upon the purpose of travel, tourists can apply for Business and Tourism Visa, Student Visa and Work Visa. Other types of Visa include C1/D visa, H-3 visa, O-1 visa and P visa, etc.
Citizens of United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Switzerland, Canada, Mexico and Bermuda can reside in the city visa-free for a period of up to six months. Visa Waiver Program is also applicable for the citizens of Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and Singapore.
Applicants from India can apply for Business and Tourism Visas: B1/B2 for travelling to the city. Business travellers from India can apply for B1 Visa, while tourists can opt for B2 visa for the United States. The validity of each of these visas is ten-years from the date of issuance and allows multiple entries to the city.
Meetings, trainings, negotiations and other allied activities for which tourists are not being paid in the United States are eligible to be counted for availing Business Visa. To avail non-immigrant visa, tourists need to pass through an interview procedure at the embassy or consulate of the country in India.
Documents required for Visa to New York City
To apply for the visa, India nationals are required to submit a scanned copy of their photograph that is a .jpg file between 600x600 and 1200x1200 pixels, is less than 240 kbs, and is not digitally altered.
Applicants also need to fill and submit the online form DS-160. Indians need to pay the visa application fee of $140 at an authorised HDFC bank. Applicants need to wait one business day before using the receipt to make their appointment.
Using DS-160 barcode number and HDFC fee receipt, an appointment can be made for the requisite non-immigrant visa interview. During the interview, the applicant is required to display the passport and previously issued passports, a recent passport size photograph of 50mm X 50mm (2" x 2") with a white background, DS-160 confirmation page with barcode and HDFC visa application fee receipts.
Indian nationals also need to carry with them the VFS appointment letter, while attending the interview for the issuance of visa. The issued visa can be collected from VFS or couriered to the applicant's address. In case couriered, delivery can take seven business days.
