The shopping facilities of Penang range from roadside stalls and night markets or “pasar malam” to modern complexes. It houses a number of fashion houses, malls, factory outlets and markets.
The main shopping centres in the city are located in Burmah Road, Penang Road and Campbell Street. The Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak (KOMTAR) is a popular shopping complex located in Penang Road with 200 shops. Penang also has some very popular shopping malls such as the Queensbay Mall, Prangin Mall, Gurney Plaza and Penang Time Square.
Other shopping destinations are the Flea Market, Little Penang Street Market and Pasar Malam which is a night market. Another popular shopping destination is Batu Ferringhi. It houses a number of stalls and shops that sells items like wooden ornaments, silver jewellery, batik clothes, lamps and many more.
Tourists who stay for less than 14 days can purchase goods at special prices from duty-free shops. Duty-free shops are easily recognized by a sign displayed outside the shop. The roadside shops in Penang are also popular shopping destinations and sell handicrafts and souvenirs.
