Foreign nationals entering Malaysia must possess a valid passport or an international travel document recognized by the Malaysian government. One needs to apply for a visa in advance at any of the Malaysian Representative office abroad before entering the country. Three types of visa are issued by the Malaysian government - Single entry, Multiple entry and Transit visa.
Indian nationals visiting Malaysia need to obtain a visa before arriving. Visas can be obtained by applying at the nearest Malaysian High Commission or Consulate General.
To apply for a visa a passport with 6 months validity, 3 photocopies of the information page of the passport, three passport-sized recent photographs, 3 copies of Form IM 47, original as well as photocopy of confirmed return ticket and proof of adequate funds are required. Visa is usually granted for 30 days which can be extended for another 30 days.
Indian tourists can also apply for a Visa on Arrival (VOA) before entering Malaysia only if they have a valid visa to enter Singapore or Thailand. Before the issuing of the VOA, the tourist needs to show his valid passport. To apply for VOA, visitors need to provide confirmed return ticket and proof of sufficient funds along with a valid passport.
The VOA is single entry and is valid for a period of stay of 14 days. Extension is not allowed in VOA. You need to pay a sum of RM 330 for VOA. There are only two Points of Entry where Malaysian VOA can be applied - they are Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Sultan Abu Bakar Complexs in Tanjung Kupang.
