Tourists need to get a Taiwanese Visa in order to visit Penghu. Foreign nationals from different parts of the world can get three types of Taiwanese Visa namely Landing Visa, Tourist Visa and Resident Visa.
Landing Visa is valid for 30 days or up to the expiration of passport, whichever is less. Tourist Visa is for those visiting the archipelago for tourism or business purposes. Resident Visa is needed by those who plan to study, work or reside in Penghu.
For Visa Exempt Entry in Taiwan, one should hold a valid passport (at least 6 months) as well as a return ticket. Moreover, one should not have any past criminal record for entering the country without a Visa.
Those staying for up to 14 days from the day of arrival (no extension is permitted) are also eligible for entering Penghu without a Visa. Arrival at one of the major entry points like CKS International Airport, Kaohsiung International Airport and other harbours also, does not require any Visa for entrance.
Citizens of Britain, Australia, Canada, USA and other EU countries do not require a Visa for staying in Penghu for up to 30 days. As an exception, UK and Irish passport holders can stay in Penghu, without a Visa, for a maximum of 90 days.
US citizens, holding a passport valid for less than 6 months from the arrival date, also need to apply for a Landing Visa for staying in Penghu for up to 30 days. Nationals of Bulgaria, Cyprus and Romania on the other hand, require a Tourist Visa for the islands of Penghu.
Tourist Visa, allowing a 60 days stay in Penghu, can be obtained for single as well as multiple entries. The single entry Taiwanese Tourist Visa can be either extendable or non-extendable, but the duration of stay is usually from 60 days to 180 days.
Multiple Entry Visa on the other hand, is valid for one, three or five years. However, one has to leave the country after every 60 days from the date of arrival. Multiple Entry Visa for Penghu is issued for business purposes only.
Indian nationals are not eligible for Visa Exempt Entry or Landing Visa (on-arrival Visa) to enter Penghu and require a Tourist Visa. A Tourist Visa grants a stay of up to 60 days in Penghu from the date of arrival.
The application for Tourist Visa can be filed at the nearest Taiwanese Embassy or Consulate in India. Taiwanese Visa is also available at the Visa section of Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in New Delhi.
