Cars can be rented only from the capital city, Manila. Major international car rental agencies like Avis, Budget, Dollar, JB Rent A Car, KEI Transport and Hertz have their branches in the city. These can be found at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and other prominent locations in Metro Manila.
The types of cars that can be rented are Toyota Corolla, Mercedes Benz, Toyota Camry, Honda CRV, Nissan and Hyundai, among others. Further, these agencies also offer chauffeur driven cars.
To cater to the heavy traffic in Metro Manila, the government has implemented laws that enable only certain numbered cars to ply on a particular day of the week. For instance, cars with the number plate ending in 1 or 2 cannot drive between 7 am to 7 pm.
The cars can be rented to travel from Metro Manila to various provinces in Luzon. The route traverses North Luzon Express-way (NLEX) and South Luzon Express-way (SLEX). Another major highway route in the country is the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Express-way or SCTEX. The system that is built in the northern part of Luzon is a 94-kilometre 4-lane free-way.
The roads in Manila range from paved multi-lane highways to narrow dirt roads. Cars can be used to visit the attractions around Metro Manila. Some islands in Philippines like Luzon are connected via bridges that can be travelled by cars.
Cars can also be rented from major high-end hotels like Palm Plaza Hotel in Manila for travelling to the airport or other destinations located near Metro Manila. The daily rental begins from 28 USD and may extend up to 37 USD. The car rental is exclusive of gas, meals of driver, parking and toll.
I have a short stint at Manila and also have to visit a few other south asian countries. Is Airtel World SIM recommended for me rather than international calling cards? The advantage of Airtel World SIM is that I will not have to buy separate calling cards for each country and I can receive calls on my india number. check http://www.airtel.in/worldsim
