Phuentsholing does not have an airport, although there are plans to open one soon. The only international airport of the country is the Paro International Airport. There are direct flights available from India, Nepal, Bhutan as well as Sri Lanka to Paro. Druk International is the only airline operating out of the country.
To reach Phuentsholing, one can take a flight from to reach Paro and then drive backwards to the town of Phuentsholing by bus. One can also reach Phuentsholing by car or by bus. There are regular bus services from Siliguri to Phuentsholing. However, the road connecting the places is in bad shape and the journey takes more than 10 hours.
There are no train services available directly to Phuentsholing from any of the neighbouring countries.
The best way to reach Phuentsholing is by train. One can takes a train from major Indian cities to the New Jalpaiguri station. The station is located about fours away from Phuentsholing and buses are available regularly. Buses are run by Government as well as private operators. It costs approximately Rs 500 to travel from New Jalpaiguri Station to Phuentsholing by bus.
Another way to reach Phuentsholing is to take bus directly from Esplanade Station in Kolkata. However, the journey is very long and it takes about 11-12 hours to reach Phuentsholing. Roads are also in very bad condition.
It is also possible to drive in to Phuentsholing. However, the connecting roads are bad. If travelling by air, one can fly to Paro International Airport from Kolkata or New Delhi and then take the bus back to Phuentsholing.
