A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992, Prague is home to many sightseeing attractions. At the Old Town Square, tourists can view the Astronomical Clock. In this clock, every hour is signalled by Christ and his 12 Apostles. As soon as the clock strikes the hour, a skeleton, representing Death, emerges, which is followed by the 12 Apostles.
The Old Jewish Quarter contains the Golem, the oldest Jewish synagogues and the famous cemetery. A French Gothic structure is displayed by St. Vitus Cathedral that is located in the Prague Castle complex.
Originally the Presbytery of a Minorite monastery, the St. James Church is a Baroque reworking of a Gothic church. The Strahov Picture Gallery, Museum of Miniature and two churches of Premonstratensian order can be viewed in the Strahov Monastery.
The Charles Bridge, originally called the Stone Bridge or the Prague Bridge, until 1870, crosses the Vltava River. The present-day bridge was constructed by King Charles IV's favourite architect and builder Peter Parler. The largest ancient castle in the world, Prague Castle is where the Czech kings, Holy Roman Emperors and presidents of the Czech Republic used to have their offices.
Statues of battling Titans mark the entrance of the castle. The castle complex also includes a palace, three churches, royal stables, a monastery and gardens. The Petrin Lookout Tower, built in 1891, is an imitation of the Eiffel Tower. The 60 metre high tower is situated atop the Petrin Hill.
At the Prague Castle, art lovers can view a collection of paintings and sculptures from the 16th to the 18th centuries. The Zbraslav Monastery showcases an exhibition of Asian Art.
St. Agnes Convent is home to Czech medieval art, as well neo-Gothic and 19th-century works. Czech National Museum, Czech Museum of Fine Arts, Prague Zoo, Mucha Museum and Kafka Museum also attract a lot of tourists.
