The local currency of Indonesia is Rupiah (Rp). The value of 1 Rp is equal to 100 sen. The denominations of coins come in Rp 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100. The bills come in denominations of Rp 100; 500; 1000; 5000; 10,000; 20,000; 50,000 and 1,00,000.

Pulau Weh has a few private money exchangers but the rates offered by them may not be high. There are some money exchanging facilities in Banda Aceh and Medan. Some banks and private money exchanging facilities in Aceh and Medan can cash Travellers' cheques too.

ATMs are available and usually charge Rp 25.000 per transaction for cashing cards of non Indonesian banks. It is always advisable to carry cash in Indonesian currency to Pulau Weh.
