| World War II Wreck \"Sophie Rickmers\" |
|
“Sophie Rickmers” is a 134-meter long underwater wreck full of corals. This wreckage site is located in the sheltered bay of Pria Laot. This cargo steam ship was constructed in Germany in 1920. Along with four other ships it was confiscated during the World War II around the waters in Pulau Weh by the Dutch resulting in the sinking of the ship by the crew on the same day.
The wrecked "Sophie Rickmers" serves as the refuge to giant morays, giant grouper and giant trevallies. Apart from this, it is also frequented by a school of unicorn filefishes and batfishes. The wheelhouse of "Sophie Rickmers" is at a depth of 37 metres, the straight bow resting on the bottom is more than 55-metres deep and the decks are around 45 metres deep.
