Travelling within Queenstown

There are regular bus services available within the city. Connectabus operates bus services within Queenstown and provides services from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm. There are night buses also available which operate from 12:00 to 5:00 am.

Buses operate at an interval of 10-15 minutes. The approximate fare for the regular buses is NZD 6 per person for 10 km while for the night buses, the fare ranges between NZD 5-NZD 16 per person depending on the distance travelled. Weekends are more expensive than weekdays.

There are shared shuttle services also available for travelling within Queenstown which provide door to door services. The approximate fare for shuttle services is NZD 10 for a distance of 10 km.

One can hire taxis from outside the airport and from the bus terminal. One can also find a taxi near tourist attractions of the city. Taxis in Queenstown run 24 hours a day. The approximate fare for taxis starts at NZD 25 for a distance of up to 10 km. However, the fares vary from company to company.

An extra surcharge of 10% applies for travelling during night time. All the taxis have meters and the drivers are not known to fleece tourists.

There are no metro or train services available at Queenstown.

Walking is another option for travelling within Queenstown. The city is small and most of the tourist attractions are located close to each other. Water taxis have been introduced recently and are meant for intra-city travel alone.
