| Mount Tarawera |

Mount Tarawera holds a special place among the Te Arawa Tribe, for whom it served as a burial site. The mountain was once home to the Pink and White terraces, considered as the eighth wonder of the world, which were destroyed because of volcanic activity.
Only guided tours are available to the mountain as it is still an active volcano.
