Sharjah, with its shops, boutiques, malls, historic bazaars and souks, is a treasure trove for shopaholics. The city has several shopping areas, where tourists can find almost everything, ranging from handicrafts and apparels to electronic items. In addition, jewellery, fruits, designer brands, sweets and furniture can also purchased from the different shopping areas in the city.
Shopping in Sharjah is a tax free affair, which gives tourists a reason to shop for more. For this reason, the retail prices for different brand names, along with the handicrafts and curios available in the souks, are reasonable. Though the prices of objects in the malls are fixed, tourists can bargain prices at souks. In addition, travellers’ cheques, credit cards and US dollars are accepted at most of the shops in the city.
Combining old Arabic hospitality with comforts of modern times, the Central Souk also known as Blue Souk, is a popular shopping destination. It is the most famous souk in Sharjah, which was opened in the year 1979. Tourists can find one of the best collections of oriental carpets in this Emirate of UAE, along with other products.
Al Wahda Road is the longest shopping street of the city. Famous as the gateway to Sharjah, this street is known for its departmental stores, restaurants and furniture showrooms, apart from sports apparel and electronic items. The city is also home to the Sharjah City Centre Mall, which was opened in 2001. This mall houses over 114 retail outlets of major international brands, like H&M, Monsoon, Splash, Lifestyle, New Look, Mr Price & Baby Shop.
Sharjah Mega Mall is another popular shopping destination in Sharjah and is located in Abu Shagara. Zara, Pramod, Mango, Nine West, Guess, Damas, Aldo and Paris Gallery are some of the major brands having outlets at this mall. Al Nahda, Al Qasba, Jamal Abdul Nasser Street, Al Arouba Road and Al Buheirah Corniche are some of the other shopping areas in Sharjah. |
