For travelling to Sicily, a Schengen visa is required. Tourists can submit all the information, certificates and documents at VFS, outsourcing agency of the Italian Embassy and Consulate General of Italy in India. Eight authorised VFS locations across the country accept applications for visa.
A traveller can file the visa application, minimum 15 days from the departure date and not before three months from the departure date. Different types of visas that are issued by VFS are Airport Transit (type A), Transit (type B), Brief Duration (1 - 90 Days) (Type C), Multiple Entry - validity 1 - 5 years (type C), and National Visa for Long Stay in Italy (type D).
Applicants from Union Territories of New Delhi, Chandigarh and the states of Haryana can apply at the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi. Forms from Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttaranchal are also accepted at VFS, Delhi. One can visit the application centre at Delhi, Jalandhar and Chandigarh without prior appointment.
Applicants from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, and Maharashtra, need to apply at the Mumbai office of VFS.
Tamil Nadu, the Union Territories of Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Lakshadweep and Pondicherry applicants can apply for visa at the Mumbai office as well.
Applicants belonging to the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Orissa, Tripura, West Bengal, the Union Territory of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Nepal need to approach Mumbai office for visa formalities.
The traveller needs to show the original documents while submitting the application. A passport sized photograph along with a photocopy of a valid passport needs to be submitted.
Medical insurance for overseas travelling that covers a claim of Euro 30,000 is required. Travelling dates and the original return flight reservation or ticket needs to be added to the main documents. A cover letter is also required that includes the purpose of travelling, professional status and a sanctioned leave from the employer.
Applicants need to submit salary slips of past three months and the bank statement of personal account of last six months. For faster processing, additional documents of Income tax, a copy of credit, accommodation proof that includes assured hotel bookings or the letter of invitation by the sponsor for the applicant can be submitted.
In case of minors, the application needs to be signed by the parents or legal guardian. The Consular Authority takes not more than 15 days for processing the formalities of the visa.
