| Baba House |
|
The Baba House is a heritage building that serves as a venue for showcasing the culture and heritage of the Peranakan people.
Peranakan is the term in Singapore used to denote Chinese immigrants who settled in the Nusantara region during the 15th and 16th centuries. Once owned by shipping magnate Wee Bin, the House is now an office of the National University of Singapore (NUS).
The Baba House was inaugurated by the President of Singapore on 4th September 2008. The efforts of the NUS and its students played a major role in the restoration of the House. The household’s belongings and its furnishings have been well maintained for over 150 years.
The facade has been touched up and the elaborately decorated pintu pagar (wooden door) has been restored to rejuvenate its characteristic sheen.
Timings: By appointment only; 2pm - 3pm (Mondays) and 10am - 11am (Thursdays)
Fees: $10 (Adult)
$5 (Child (18 years old and below) & NUS Staff)
$8 (Senior Citizen (55 years old and above) & NUS Alumni)
$3 (NUS Student)
