The accommodation options in Singapore range from high-end and luxury hotels to serviced apartments, hostels, villas, resorts and camps. Serviced apartments are centrally located in the country and offer furnished and equipped rooms. Hostels offer economical private rooms and dormitory accommodation. Private housing blocks or condos, bungalows and working villas can also be rented.
Hostels are found in Little India, Bugis and the East Coast. Budget hotels are clustered in the Geylang, Balestier and Little India districts and offer basic facilities like bathroom and television.
A host of mid-range accommodation options is found at the western end of the Singapore River. A collection of luxury hotels and resorts is found near the Marina Bay and around Orchard Road.
Major international hotel chains present in Singapore include Hilton, Hyatt, Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, Four Seasons and Marriott International. Domestic hotel chains available in the country include Mandarin Oriental, Orchard Hotel and Gallery Hotel, among others.
For business travellers, Singapore offers innumerable accommodation options that are located in the heart of the Financial District. Most of these hotels offer new office suites and contemporary business centres. Facilities available exclusively for business travellers at these hotels include secretarial service, wired and wireless broadband internet access, meeting rooms with teleconference facilities, etc.
Leisure accommodation options in Singapore have facilities like spa, gym and swimming pool. One can relax in a Jacuzzi and undertake personal training programmes and hydrotherapy treatment. Squash, golf, tennis, and water sports can also be availed at these options. With no seasonal variation throughout the year, one can plan a trip to Singapore throughout the year. However, most people prefer to visit Singapore during the festive seasons. In January, Singapore celebrates the Chinese New Year, while in November Indians in Singapore celebrate Diwali.
November also witnesses the celebration of Hari Raya Puasa by Malay Muslims to mark the end of their fasting season. During September, the Chinese Lantern Festival is organised.
In June, Art festival takes place that is conducted with music troupes performing in the Esplanade Theatre. Christmas is another peak tourist season in the country. During all these months, hotels experience overbooking and there might be a raise in the standard rates.
Singapore has 191 hotels across 5 different categories - Hotel, Resort, Apartment/Serviced apartment, B&B/Guest house/Hostel/Lodge and City Hotel. |

Singapore with Star Cruise...
|
I am planning a Singapore trip with 3-nights on ‘Star Cruise Virgo’ (Singapore-Phuket-Penang) with my wife and 2-year-old son. For anyone who has been on the cruise, could you please guide me on a few queries…
1.) How different is the experience between the ‘balcony room’, ‘porthole window room’ and ‘inside stateroom’ on the cruise? Am I missing too much if I don’t opt for the balcony room? Wanted to be very sure because there’s a huge difference between the room tariff – around Rs 16000 per person (SGD 400)
2.) Are there decent vegetarian food options on cruise? Is Indian cuisine available or am I asking for too much?
3.) Are the land excursions (in Phuket and Penang) organized by Star Cruise worth going for?
4.) What are the non-operational dates of cruise due to monsoon or bad weather? I plan my tour in April or May 2012.
5.) Finally what are the entertainment options aboard cruise? Any thing in particular that I shouldn’t miss…
Would really appreciate genuine feedback. Thanks in advance
Regards,
Gaurav

Jurong Bird Park and Night Safari
|
Anyone who has been to the 'Jurong Bird Park' in Singapore... can you please guide me on a few queries
- Should I see the bird park on 'panorail' (I've a 2 year old kid) or exploring on foot would be more interesting?
- Do I need to take the 'guided tours' in Bird Park or going by myself is sufficient? (The guided tours are damn expensive at $25 per person)
- If I go for 'Night Safari', would I miss something if I don't go to the 'Zoo'?
- How far is the 'Night Safari' park from the 'Bird Park'? What is the mode of transport and how much would it cost?
- Any other things I shouldn't be missing at the 'Bird Park' or 'Night Safari'... pls do let me know.
Would really appreciate genuine feedback. Thanks in advance
- Gaurav
