Singapore is a popular tourist attraction of South-east Asia, owing to its tropical climate and vibrant nightlife. This garden city uniquely combines skyscrapers and subways of a modern, affluent city with a medley of Chinese, Malay and Indian influences.
The country is popular with tourists for its famous festivals like the Singapore Food Festival that is organised in July to commemorate Singaporean cuisine. Other famous festivals of Singapore that are organised every year include Singapore Sun Festival, the Christmas Light Up and the Singapore Jewel Festival.
Singapore is a popular destination among adventure lovers that throng the island country for enjoying numerous outdoor activities. Mountain biking around Bukit Timah, diving with sharks at Underwater World on Sentosa, and leopard-spotting at Singapore Zoo's Night Safari are amongst the most popular activities. Waterskiing or wakeboarding on the Kallang River, go-karting and rock climbing can also be done.
Singapore is famous for its beaches, including the three beaches on Sentosa and those found on the East Coast. The Bras Basah area that lies to the east of Orchard and north of the Singapore River has many historical buildings and museums.
Nature lovers can visit Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, Jurong Bird Park and the Botanical Gardens. Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is the largest patch of primary rainforest in Singapore.
The multicultural country is also popular for its religious sights. Prominent among these are the Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery near Ang Mo Kio and the colourful Sri Mariamman Hindu temple in Chinatown.
Other famous places of worship in Singapore are the psychedelic Burmese Buddhist Temple in Balestier and the stately Masjid Sultan in Arab Street. The Southern Ridges Walk that is a 9 kilometre stroll through the jungles of southern Singapore also attracts visitors.
Casino resorts in Singapore offering legalised gambling are another attraction. Orchard Road is the fashion centre of Singapore and has many modern stores and malls. The city is also famous for its antiques and souvenirs that can be purchased from Chinatown. Boutiques on Orchard Road provide an extravagant shopping experience.
The vibrant nightlife of Singapore is largely attributed to its pubs, bars and floating restaurants along the Singapore River. Tiger beer is the official beverage of Singapore and is highly popular. Food lovers can savour an array of Asian dishes like Sambal stingray, char kway teow, oyster omelette, chicken rice, clay-pot seafood, fish head curry and beef rendang.

Singapore with Star Cruise...
|
I am planning a Singapore trip with 3-nights on ‘Star Cruise Virgo’ (Singapore-Phuket-Penang) with my wife and 2-year-old son. For anyone who has been on the cruise, could you please guide me on a few queries…
1.) How different is the experience between the ‘balcony room’, ‘porthole window room’ and ‘inside stateroom’ on the cruise? Am I missing too much if I don’t opt for the balcony room? Wanted to be very sure because there’s a huge difference between the room tariff – around Rs 16000 per person (SGD 400)
2.) Are there decent vegetarian food options on cruise? Is Indian cuisine available or am I asking for too much?
3.) Are the land excursions (in Phuket and Penang) organized by Star Cruise worth going for?
4.) What are the non-operational dates of cruise due to monsoon or bad weather? I plan my tour in April or May 2012.
5.) Finally what are the entertainment options aboard cruise? Any thing in particular that I shouldn’t miss…
Would really appreciate genuine feedback. Thanks in advance
Regards,
Gaurav

Jurong Bird Park and Night Safari
|
Anyone who has been to the 'Jurong Bird Park' in Singapore... can you please guide me on a few queries
- Should I see the bird park on 'panorail' (I've a 2 year old kid) or exploring on foot would be more interesting?
- Do I need to take the 'guided tours' in Bird Park or going by myself is sufficient? (The guided tours are damn expensive at $25 per person)
- If I go for 'Night Safari', would I miss something if I don't go to the 'Zoo'?
- How far is the 'Night Safari' park from the 'Bird Park'? What is the mode of transport and how much would it cost?
- Any other things I shouldn't be missing at the 'Bird Park' or 'Night Safari'... pls do let me know.
Would really appreciate genuine feedback. Thanks in advance
- Gaurav
