Travelling to South Korea - Buses
  Buses

From South Korea, there is no bus service to any other country. Buses only form the major mode of transportation within the country. Two kinds of buses, Express and Intercity operate in South Korea. Non-stop express buses known as Gosok run on expressways, while the Intercity buses known as Sioe stop at several areas.

Express buses can be categorised into Ilban, the regular buses and Udeung, the luxury buses. Similarly, intercity buses are also of two kinds; Ilban, the regular buses and Jikaeng, the non-stop direct buses.

There are three kinds of bus terminals from where one can board the regional buses.  A bus terminal serving both Express and Intercity buses are called Jonghap. Terminals serving express buses only are called Gosok and those serving intercity buses only are called Sioe.

Seoul Yeokjeon Bus Terminal and Seoul Seobu Intercity Bus Terminal are the main bus terminals of Seoul. The Incheon region is served by two main bus terminals; Incheon Airport Bus Terminal and Ganghwa Intercity Bus Terminal.  Busan Central Bus Terminal is the main bus terminal of Busan.

For travelling within the city, local buses called jwaseok and dosihyeong or ipseok operate in the country. Official buses called nongeochon operate in the rural areas of several regions in the country.

Regional buses operate at an interval of 15 minutes in the major cities and towns. Local buses run at an interval of 60 minutes. Long journeys in South Korea do not have on-board toilets and 10-minute rest stops are provided every few hours.

The one way fare for Express and Intercity buses is around $3.57. The local buses in the country are comparatively cheaper with one-way fares being $0.89.
