  Trains

Korea Railroad is the main railway operator in South Korea. The main railway station in the country is Seoul Station that connects the capital city to Busan and Gyeongju on the Gyeongbu line. Except Jungang line and the Gyeongchun line, all the other routes of Korean railway network start from this station.

Busan Station in south-east South Korea is another major railway station in the country. It is the southern terminus of the Gyeongbu Line that connects Busan to Seoul with the KTX line.

Train Routes in South Korea
South Korea is not connected to any other country by a rail network; however, several trains operate within the country. The main railway network in the country has six main lines that are operated by Korail.

Gyeongbu Line is the main railway line that serves destinations like Seoul, Daejeon, Dongdaegu and Busan. Another major line is Honam Line serving Seodaejeon, Iksan, Songjeongni, Naju and Mokpo. Jeolla Line serving areas like Iksan, Jeonju, Suncheon and Yeosu is the third major railway line in the country.

Janghang Line that covers stations like Cheonan, Janghang and Iksan is the fourth main railway line. The fifth main line of the railway network is Jungang Line covering stations like Cheongnyangni, Wonju, Jecheon, Yeongju, Andong and Gyeongju.

The Taebaek Line that connects Jecheon and Taebaek is the sixth major line. Korail also operates Korea Train eXpress (KTX) that is the high-speed rail system in South Korea. This train currently runs between Seoul, Busan and Mokpo.

Korea Train eXpress (KTX) is a high-speed train that runs at a speed of around 305 kilometres per hour. This train covers the distance between Seoul and Busan in about 2 hours 35 minutes. Standard and First class are the two travel classes in this train. Footrest, sliding tray in front of seat and TV are provided in the standard class of this train.

The first class of this train is equipped with footrest, tray, audio panel and TV. Other facilities provided in this train include hand dryer, sink, socket, refrigerator, baggage compartment     and beverage & snack vending machine. For travelling in the standard class of this train, one has to pay $40 for one way whereas, ticket for first class costs around $56.

Express trains called Saemaeul have comfortable seats in comparison to the semi-express Mugunghwa trains. Both of these trains have an entertainment car, cafe/bar, and computers with internet access. Tonggeuns are the cheapest of all and have no special service.
