Sukhothai has a quite a number of restaurants serving Thai and western dishes. Some restaurants open only in the daytime while some serve only dinner.
In New Sukhothai, local foods are available in the night market which is called To Chung. Examples of local foods are rice with fried pork, sweet fried beef or spicy pork wrapped in banana leaf.
The culinary speciality in this town is Sukhothai noodles, which is rice noodles in a dark soy sauce flavoured broth mixed with pork, coriander, garlic, chilli, etc.
Vietnamese food, Sukhothai-style ‘padthai’ etc. are also available. Thai noodles, the rice noodles mixed with warm chicken, shrimp, bean sprouts, eggs, and peanuts is a popular dish.
Other popular dishes are Thai curry with beef, baby corn chicken or beef, sweet and sour chicken, garlic chicken, sweet and sour pork, shrimp with green vegetables, etc. Beer, wine and cocktails are also available in the restaurants.
In the restaurant Fueng Far, “fish food” is a special dish. Fish foods in Sukhothai restaurants include spicy dishes of Sukhothai local fishes such as Tom Yom Hua Pla, Look Chin Pla Krai Luak Jim, Kob Phat Kra Pao and many more. One can find the preparation of sea fishes with sauces or the fried basil frog.
