| Experiment Farm Cottage |
|
The Experiment Farm Cottage is one of the oldest properties of Australia. The cottage was built on the first land grant that dates back to the 18th century. It was allotted by the then governor Phillip to an ex-convict James Ruse, who soon converted the thirty acres of land to a farm.
Presently it is home to a unique collection of Colonial furniture and provides knowledge regarding the lifestyle in the early colonial days. The cellars boast of a museum that presents all phases of occupation and celebrates the life and achievements of James Ruse.
It was built by Surgeon John Harris and the furnishing was based on an 1838 inventory. The farm includes vital pieces of Australianism. This cottage is furnished and looked after by the National Trust that provides guided tours of the place.
