| Kings cross |
|
Located about 2 kilometres east of the Central Business District the Kings Cross is one of the most vibrant places in the city and is well known for its night life. The Kings Cross Food and Wine Festival is a local annual event held in autumn by the business action group Kings Cross Partnership.
Once known for grand music halls and theatres, it was rapidly transformed with the influx of troops from the nearby Garden Island naval base after World War II. At present there are several nightclubs, strip clubs as well as cafes and adult bookstores in this locality. It is also called the red-light capital of the city.
