National Palace Museum

The National Palace Museum is the national museum of the Republic of China, which was originally established on 10 October, 1925 in Beijing. This art museum was shifted to Taipei on 12 November, 1965.

Tourists can see a collection of artefacts that exhibit the history of China from Neolithic age to late Qing Dynasty.         

Designed by Huang Bao Yu in style of a Northern Chinese palace, this museum has a collection of 93,000 items. This comprises of artistic pieces of Chinese calligraphy, porcelain, landscape paintings and figurines brought from Beijing's Forbidden City. One can also go through 562,000 traditional books and documents that are preserved in the museum.  

This museum has been ranked 11th in the list of world’s most visited art museums. One can see some of the famous treasured items like Jadeite Cabbage, Meat-shaped Stone and Palace version of the Qingming Scroll. Visitors can also have a look at Carved Olive-stone Boat and One Hundred Horses.

Tourists can also visit the Zhishan Garden, which is in the compound of the museum. Spread over 1.88 hectares, this garden is designed in the style of classical Chinese Song and Ming. This garden is open for the public from Tuesday to Sunday from 7 am to 7 pm.  

Tourists wishing to visit this museum can take the metro from MRT Danshui Line to the Shilin Station. From there, one can take bus R30 for National Palace Museum.

Metro from MRT Wenhu Line to the Dazhi Station can also be taken. After exiting the station, one can take bus B13 (Brown 13) to the museum. Travellers can also take buses 255 and 304 as well as minibus 18 and 19, for reaching the museum.
 
Timing: Museum: 9 am - 5 pm (Sunday - Friday)
             9 am - 8.30 pm (Saturday)
            Garden:  7 am to 7 pm (Tuesday to Sunday)

Entry to the Zhishan Garden is free, if one does not wish to see exhibition.
