Taipei is located on the Taiwanese Island and hence, can not be reached by road from other countries. Taoyuan International Airport connects Taipei with the rest of the world. It is located 40 km south of the city centre.
One can also reach Taipei by the two freeways that run from north to south. Major freeways into Taipei are Freeway 1 that is also known as Chung-Shan freeway and Freeway 3, which is commonly called second freeway.
Tourists can also take weekly international passenger ferries that run between Taiwanese Keelung and Kaohsiung ports and Naha. From here, one can take overnight ferry to reach Keelung.
This ferry takes around 16 to 20 hours to reach the destination and departs only on Thursday and Friday. Taiwan High Speed Rail also connects Taipei to Kaoshiung. One can take these trains that take less than three hours to reach the destination.
Taipei Railway Station that is managed by the Taiwan Railway Administration is the major railway station in Taipei. It is situated in the Zhongzheng District in downtown Taipei. Further, Taiwan High Speed Rail is newly constructed and operates nearly 176 train runs per day.
Taipei Bus Station, situated next to Taipei Station operates numerous intercity buses across the country. 15 individual bus transit agencies operate buses from this station.
One can reach Taipei from Hong Kong by availing Eva Air or China Airlines. These airlines also connect the destination with South East Asia, Japan and the US. One can take China Airways to reach Taipei from Frankfurt and other US countries.
One has to change flights at Frankfurt, while travelling from Australia. From Singapore, one can take the Jetstar Asia Flight to reach Taipei. Cathay Pacific that lands on terminal 1 of the Taoyuan International Airport also operates flights to Taipei.
KLM, United, All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines and Asiana Airlines are other airlines operational in the Taiwanese capital. It takes around 30 to 45 minutes from downtown Taipei to arrive at the airport. |
