Thailand has nine international airports, out of which two major airports are at Bangkok, namely the Suvarnabhumi International Airport and the Don Muang International Airport. Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi (BKK) airport serves as a hub for international flights to Singapore, Australia, Europe and others apart from being a gateway to other Thai destinations.
Other primary airports are the Phuket International Airport (HKT), the Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX), Hat Yai International Airport (HDY) and Koh Samui (USM).
The Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), probably the most important airport of the country, hosts many international direct flights operated by Thai Airways, Malaysian Airways, Cathay Pacific and Etihad Airways, etc. Chartered flights usually land in the smaller international airports of Phuket, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai and Koh Samui.
The Suvarnabhumi Airport is one of the major hubs of the Asia-Pacific region and has two international and one domestic terminal. The three terminals are interconnected with the help of covered walkway.
Apart from international airports, Thailand has 25 domestic airports. Apart from the Don Muang Airport, the Hua Hin Airport is quite popular for travelling within the country as it caters to both chartered and shuttle flight services. Besides these, the other frequently used domestic airport is the Trang Airport in the south of Thailand and the Trat Airport.
Moreover, due to the presence of different airports in North, South and East, like Lampang, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Khon Kaen Airport respectively, travellers can easily reach different parts of Thailand.
Main Airports
The Bangkok International Airport (BKK) has connectivity to all major countries of the world, including India. All the four major metros of India have connecting flights to Bangkok. Flights of Air India operate between the Indira Gandhi International Airport of Delhi and Suvarnabhumi International Airport.
Air India flights from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata and the Bangalore International Airport also cater to flights to Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Thailand. Furthermore, flights of Air India operate between Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai and Chennai International Airport.
Thai Airways provides flights between Suvarnabhumi International Airport and the international airports of Delhi and Mumbai. Indian Airline flights operate between Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and Phuket International Airport. There is also connectivity between airports of Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata and the Chiang Mai International Airport through flights operated by Emirates and Air India.
To fly within the country, domestic flights are available between the major airports of Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son. There are also flights which operate between the islands of Koh Samui, Sukhothai and Trat.
To visit the heritage city of Ayutthaya, one can reach the nearest airport of Don Muang in Bangkok and then catch a train from the nearby station, which takes around an hour to reach Ayutthaya.
Airlines
Amongst the various domestic airlines that operate within the country, some of the popular ones are Air Asia, Thai Airlines, Bangkok Airways, Orient Thai, Nok Air and SGA Airlines.
The prominent airlines of Thailand are Air Asia, Thai Airlines, Bangkok Airways, Orient Thai, Nok Air and SGA Airlines. Having licence from the Thai Government, around 70 airlines provide flights to and from Thailand. Thai Airways is the national air carrier and offers global connectivity to and from all the major airports of Thailand.
The international airlines that fly between Thailand and other countries are Air Asia, Bangkok Airways, Orient Thai, Nok Air and SGA Airlines, amongst many. Indian nationals can opt for many direct and connecting flights to reach Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, Chiang Mai International Airport and others. The preferred flights are Air Asia X, Air India, Thai Airways, Cathay Pacific, Bangkok Airways, etc.
I want to go to Thailand? What is the best time visit the place? i wany to go especially to Pattaya & Phuket. I have these places are very costly. Is it true?
we are planing to spend 3 weeks in philippines and would like to know the most popular backpackers destinations couldnt find any info. on the internet so any suggestions would help a lot...we are going to be there 15-20 jan. 2009 and want to spend some time on the beach..what will be the weather like (compare to thailand or malaysia)

Me and my wife have ECNR stamped on our passports, do I need to get ECNR stamped on my three year old daughter's passport also to get Thailand's Visa?
