Shopping in Wellington is a mix of designer goods and arts and crafts. One can find big malls and high end shops in Wellington as well as small shops selling arts, crafts and other products.
The prime shopping areas of the city are the Cuba Street, Wllis, Victoria and the Featherston Streets. The Golden Mile on Lambton Quay is another shopping destination.
Wellington is known for its boutiques which stock various clothing and accessories. There are vintage shops too in the area where one can shop for designer labels at a heavily discounted price.
The largest shopping area in the city is the Capital on the Quay which has more than 30 shops selling designer clothing, kitchenware, home appliances etc. The region also has many cafes and restaurants.
There is a 12.5% Goods and Services tax applicable on all the goods sold and every shop gives a receipt for every item sold. The airport has duty free shops which are exempt from the Goods and Services tax.
There are also some stores which give tourists goods free of the Goods and Services tax, provided they show their tickets for their onward journey. |
