Xian Xianyang International Airport is situated at a distance of 40 km northwest of the city centre. This airport serves International flights to Bangkok, Macau, Hong Kong, Seoul, Fukuoka, Nagoya, Niigata, Tokyo and Hiroshima, and Singapore via Kunming.
Xian being positioned in the centre of China is mostly at a distance of only 2 hours flight from the major Chinese cities. There are numerous domestic flights available from and to the airport from major cities such as Beijing, Guangzhou, Harbin, Hangzhou, Kunming, Lhasa, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Xining and many others.
Presently this airport houses two terminal buildings, T1 and T2, which is spread over an area of 100,000 square meters. T1 has been operating domestic air routes since 2007. Airlines including China Southern Airlines (CZ), Xiamen Airlines (MF), Sichuan Airlines (3U) and Chongqing Airlines (OQ) operate from this terminal.
Most of the domestic and all of the international air routes departing and arriving at Xian operate from the T2 terminal. Presently there are 9 airlines including Air China (CA), Hainan Airlines (HU), Shenzhen Airlines (ZH), Shanghai Airlines (FM), Shandong Airlines (SC), East Star Airlines (8C), Lucky Air (8L), Kunpeng Air (VD) and Grand China Express (GS), operating from this terminal.
T1 has a Departure and Arrival Hall where facilities such as stores, café, travellers’ service centre, luggage storage, toilet and Transfer Waiting Hall are available. The T2 terminal consists of a departure hall located on the 2nd floor, the arrival hall located on the 1st floor, along with the interlayer with eight arrival gates and the underground floor.
In the Departure Hall of T2, facilities such as luggage storage, travellers’ service centre, VIP and First Class waiting hall, shop, restaurant, bookstore, café, smoking area, medical centre, communication, money exchange and ticket office are available. In the Arrival Hall facilities such as communication, medical centre, café, VIP and First Class waiting hall are available.
Taxis and buses are available outside the airport. Taxis from the airport to downtown Bell Tower cost around INR 686.8. The airport bus leaves every half-hour from 6 am to 6 pm and costs around INR 171.7 and takes about an hour to reach the city centre.
There are numerous bus lines. Airport Bus No. 1 doesn’t stop in between and directly drops off passengers in front of Melody Hotel, near the Bell Tower. Tourists who need to go to the railway station from the airport have to take bus No. 2.
