Hiking and trekking can be done in the Huashan Mountain, which is home to a number of significant Taoist temples that the emperors of past dynasties visited for pilgrimages. It is located in Huayin City, which is at a distance of 120 km east of Xian.
Mt. Huashan is often referred to as the 'The Number One Precipitous Mountain under Heaven'. It is also counted as one of the five sacred mountains in China, along with Mt. Hengshan in Hunan, Mt. Taishan in Shandong, Mt. Songshan in Henan and Mt. Hengshan in Shanxi.
In ancient times it was known as Mt. Taihuashan because from far, the five peaks looked like a 'flower' or ‘hua’ in Chinese. It is popular because of the natural vistas of steep and narrow paths, high mountain range, precipitous crags, and the spectacular views that it offers.
