Sri lanka

Postby Madhuri on Thu Sep 30, 2010 1:26 pm

Hi everyone,

I want to plan a holiday in Sri lanka.

Can anyone help me out with my following queries.
1. Which is the best season to visit Sri Lanka. I do not like to travel in peak season.
2. What budget should I keep in mind if holdiays of around 11 days.
3. Which are the places of interest
4. Is it safe to travel alone and a group of just 2 or 3 ladies.
5. Generally how are the hotels in terms of cost.

Thanks for your help.

Regards
Madhuri

Hi Madhuri,

The time you prefer to go would be towards the end of Sep or the beginning of Oct. It would not be very crowded and the weather also will be just beginning to get better.

Your budget depends on what kind of hotels you would be stating at. If you stay in 3* properties, it would cost you around 15k for the entire period. But I suggest you stay at 4* properties there. Also your budget would depend on whether you are going to use private transport or public and how many places you are going to be visiting.

There are quite a few places you could visit here. Colombo being very obvious. You could go shopping here. Apart from Colombo, you could also visit Bentota (You could go to Beruwela if you feel Bentota is too crowded for your liking). Galle, Kandy, Hambantota are some of the other places you could visit. A must visit sightseeing attraction would be the Elephant Orphanage at Pinnewela. You could go here when you're going to Kandy.

I think the entire trip would cost you about 35K each person including your flight. Maybe 40K also.

With regards to safety, you don't need to worry about it. Srilankan people are very friendly and you don't need to worry about anything.

Have an awesome trip and don't forget to let me know how it went. Also if you have any more doubts, you know where to come.

Thanks,
Savio

Hi Madhuri,

I am so sorry I wouldn't be the right person to answer the question. The only reason being is that I do not take any tour operators help. I had done it once. Not that the services were bad or anything, just that it rally ties your hands. No adventure and very boring. I suggest you just do the hotel bookings and flight bookings through an agent and don't take any guided tours!! VERY BORING!!!! So just do this. If you need help with places you need to visit and what you need to do. Otherwise if you are really keen on taking the help of an agent, place an enquiry on this website That is what I do. But I do it only for the hotel bookings and if I am going to a destination I have never been to. Best thing to do is research a bit on the destination, book your hotels and flight. Go. Have fun!!! Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Savio
