A new chain of hotels is going to
be launched across rural India by hospitality major
ITC-Welcomegroup. They will be branded as “Fortune
Lodges”, and will be run by the company’s
subsidiary, Fortune Hotels, that caters to the mid-range
hospitality segment.
Fortune Lodges will be unique, as for the first
time small towns in India will have hotels run by
a big name in the Indian hotel business. Guests
will have an assured level of services and comfort,
hygienic rooms and dining facilities, gym facilities
and wi-fi connectivity. |

According
to Mr. Suresh Kumar, President, ITC-Fortune Hotels,
“These 16-25 room properties will cater to
rural marketing hubs, especially providing accommodation
for those who come to trade in agri-products. They
will work as an interface between the rural and
the urban markets.” |
| |
|
|
| The first locations for
Fortune Lodges will be in Madhya Pradesh, Andhra
Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, where ITC is also building
retail hubs called ‘Chaupal Sagar’.
Say Kumar: “With the rural sector becoming
affluent, a large number of FMCGs are targeting
this emerging market. Fortune Lodges shall provide
an affordable accommodation option for both. Also
with the infrastructure development taking place
at a rapid pace, Fortune Lodges shall be of assistance
in these projects too by providing accommodation
facility which would have technological advancements
like Wi-fi connectivity.” |
| |
| The architectural design
and template is in the development stage, but according
to Kumar, “Fortune Lodges shall be structurally
different from their multi-layered counterparts.
Their location will be closer to the rural accessible
places, also helping them stand apart from the crowd.” |
