DAY: 24th January 2009 I am Debashish Samanta going to tell you about my personal experience when I had been to Nagarjuna Sagar on a fine morning. Being we both are travel freak, One day I and my wife decided to go for a long trip. Fortunately when we planed this we got a long vacation from 24 January (Saturday) to 26 January (Republic day).So we thought to utilize this long weekend. Finally we decided that we will start on 24 January (Saturday) early morning. On Friday, I thoroughly searched the google map to get a route map from my home hi-tech city to L B Nagar and Sagar road. I got the printouts so that I will not be confused once I start from home. We decided that next day morning we will start at sharp 6. Next day we got ready at 6 but it was dark outside so finally we started at 6.20am. We went as per the route map but we got bit late as I was not aware of the routes and I had to follow the map. Finally we got the Sagar route at around 7:40. After traveling for more then 20 to 25 minutes, we saw a big lake in the right side of the road. It was the Ibhrahimpatnam Lake. The panaromic view of Ibhrahimpatnam Lake was just excellent. We decided to have our breakfast there. I should thank my wife that she took the pain to prepare the breakfast in the early morning for the tour. We had an excellent breakfast and a superb tea. After having our breakfast we got some excellent snaps of the Ibhrahimpatnam Lake. We again started at around 8:20.I marked that we were 123km away from Nagarjuna Sagar. I thought, it would take around more than 2 hours to reach Nagarjuna Sagar but I should say thanks to the AP government for maintaining a non NH road so excellently. I should also thank to my Car Maruti Swift Vxi because of what I was able to catch a speed of nearly 140 Km/Hr without any kind of vibrations. We again took a break just before 20kms away from Nagarjuna Sagar. Actually to be frank enough I had an idea that there are very less things to see in Nagarjuna Sagar so just to enjoy each and every bit of time and scenery we stopped very frequently. Finally we reached Nagarjuna Sagar at around 15 minutes to 10am.We stopped and took some snaps in the Right side of the Dam then we directed for the left side of the dam from where we can take launch ride to the Nagarjunakonda museum. Nagarjunakonda was one of the largest and most important Buddhist centers in South India from the second century BC until the third century AD. There are 3 timings for the launch ride. The first one starts at 9:30 then 11:30 and the last one at 1:30.We missed the first one as that was at 9:30. I got the tickets for the launch ride and for the museum. Ticket for the launch ride was Rs.75.00 (Each) for adults and Rs.7.00 (Each) for the museum. The launch started at around 12 noon. We enjoyed the launch ride like anything. The view was excellent. We got numerous snaps. It took around 50 minutes to reach Nagarjunakonda Island. The Launch driver gave us just 1 hour time to complete the Nagarjunakonda Island. There is not much things to see in Nagarjunakonda Island except the museum and the Buddha sculptors. The garden was well maintained by the central government and the view was excellent. We started from the Island just at 2pm and reached the starting point at around 3.We were really feeling hungry by that time. I got some information about the Nagarjuna hotel just beside the booking counter of the launch. We just rushed to the hotel fearing that the food must be finished by then as it was already 3:15. Fortunately we got our food there. The food quality and test was good. After finishing our lunch we headed for the Ethipothala Waterfalls. It is just about 11 kms from the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. The Ethipothala Waterfalls is on the Chadravanka River, a tributary of the Krishna. We got absolutely scenic surroundings. The water cascades down to 70 feet into a lagoon. We got some snaps there. We were there for more than 1 hour. As we wanted to cover as much as distance possible before the dusk just to avoid the night driving so we thought of starting towards Hyderabad. We headed for Hyderabad at around 5:10 pm. In between we got some excellent farming of turmeric and chilly so we stopped and grabbed some turmeric and chilly before the farmer caught us. It was en excellent experience. It took more time because of the night driving and we finally entered Hyderabad city limit at around 7:45. We were much tied so we had our food in one of the Restaurant and finally we reached home at around 9:10 pm. So we got an excellent trip and much more unexpected enjoyments throughout the move. All total it was 390kms drive for me through out the day. I should thank to my wife for an excellent companion throughout the day so that I won?t feel sleepy and get bored while driving. We enjoyed each and every bit of time/Scenery and moments. More » « Hide
