Hotel Sheveroys is located in the heart of the city. All the details are available in their website. Here we knew the rooms at a slightly higher end should be available, even though they try to sell those rooms first. The rooms were 80% clean and neat. Breakfast (buffet) was complimentary which has a combination of both Indian (north and south) and continental. This is common for every boarder of Shevaroys and is served at the “Silver Oak” restaurant. There are 4 restaurants spread in the same campus namely “The Silver Oak” multi cuisine restaurant, “The Red Dragon” Chinese restaurant, “Malar” a pure vegetarian restaurant (reasonably priced though the dosas were sour), Bear’s Cave, a full fledged Bar, a bakery and cake shop attached with a super market. In house restaurants food quality and service was good, slightly over priced, quantity is less and the waiting time is more. Anyone can dine there; need not be a boarder at Shevaroys. Other facilities include internet browsing, ATM, beauty parlor, a massage parlor, and recreation room for indoor games. On request the hotel will arrange sightseeing for few places only. It does not include all the places mentioned in their website. More » « Hide

Anyone who appreciate and loves the old world charm or someone who want to experience a stay other than in a conventional hotel or someone who wants to have a glimpse of princely living will simply fall in love with this place. It is in Mysore a place which does not require any formal introduction. Though it comes under Ashoka Group and has a superb infrastructure, maintenance especially the outdoors, garden, poolside etc. is nowhere comparable to other five star hotels. In a nutshell to put it…...it is not real as you see in the website or virtual tours of Lalithamahal Palace. Infact the compound is so huge you can have a mini brindavan garden around the palace. The hotel was ok, worth for the money in terms of the service, cleanliness, spaciousness and the rich heritage. Breakfast was good, lunch and dinner were ok but do not compare with other five star standards. We opted for buffet as it works out to be economical for the family and you have plenty of choice. You can have really relaxing time at ‘The Saphire’ with the accompaniment of live music reminding you the Maharaja time. The artwork in the high ceiling of dining hall and furniture in the front lobby simply mesmerize you to a world of chandamama story. Most of the guests seems to corporate guests or foreigners. Staff was warm and courteous though not highly polished. Expected to be some more well verse in manners and etiquettes or lazy??? Basic Tariff and other details of facilities are given in the website. It has a nice bookstore, and three other stores that sell jewelry, silks, and Indian handicrafts respectively with some good stuff. The stores are a little overpriced. During our two days stay I could watch movie shooting also there. The security guards had a tough time to keep away the locals who wanted to watch the movie shooting. Sight seeing will be arranged by the hotel if you wish to and book in advance. A chariot ride is also available by the palace. Since the location is outskirts of the city having own transport will be an advantage. I could see many travels and taxis have parked their cars and vehicles in the same premises itself. You need to approach the travel desk for taxis or autos. Most of the places like Brindavan garden, Mysore palace etc are within few kilometers of reach. More » « Hide

The entry to the border itself gives you a different feeling altogether. The much spoken, written, visited and praised unique tourist place in South India, is a God’s gift to all of us. The popularity earned her equally the commercialization too at a rapid pace. Still it has its own charm which lures us back again. I enjoyed Ooty most as a child but is not its former self anymore. There are many good reviews in internet which is more than sufficient for a tourist. Yet I thought of penning few lines about my recent visit. We had a weeklong stay till March 30, 2009. Weather : I kept checking the link http://www.accuweather.com/world-index-forecast.asp? to decide whether to carry sweaters or not. Of course, my sweaters were indeed useful. More » « Hide

Travel: By Air : takes exactly one hour journey from Trivandrum International Airport which is the nearest airport. By Train/ Bus: less than a km from railway station and bus stand. Auto and taxi fare are just minimum. Location: Centrally located, less than a km from boat jetty, bus stand and railway station. Ambience and Décor: are good. It is above average Check in Time: Unlike many hotels check in time is 24 hours. Weather : During summer the heat is too intensive and humid. So, during summer it would be better if you take a room with AC especially if you are not used to this type of weather. Rooms: We stayed in a Double Deluxe ac room as we had decided to be indoor for most of the time. The quality of the room, décor, furniture is good though a bit expensive. The room cleanliness is an area where the housekeeper can pay a bit more attention. As soon as I got into the room, my eyes have fallen to all the dust particles on the headboard (throughout) of the cot, and every hidden part of the furniture. The bathroom floor was also not spared. The bed sheets were slightly torn though clean. It looked like that this room was not used for sometime. But upon request, you get to clean it immediately. The only discomfort, I had was I did not get sound sleep due to the traffic, since the hotel is very close to the main road. The next two days as we were going to be out door nearly 20 hours, we requested for a room change and shifted to a normal double room. It was on the top most floor. I must aptly say it was a furnace. Thank God we spent only few hours in that room. If you plan to stay in this hotel during summer, top floor without ac should be avoided. Another disadvantage was, you cannot open the windows, since it is very close to the main road. So ask for a room which is not closer to the main road and not on the top floor. Food : It has a good coffee shop as well as a restaurant; moderately priced. You never get all the items printed in the menu card. They have fixed items for each day. Some items like puttu kadala are tasty. I never got to taste famous Appam on all the three days, as it was never available. Dosas and idlee were tooooo savour, though tasty…probably due to quick and strong fermentation in summer. Service : is good, staff are good and courteous. It has other facilities like conference room, a beauty parlour etc. Tariff : AC Delux Double : Rs.1400 + Rs.100 Extra Bed + Rs.225 Luxury charges Normal Double : Rs.600 + Rs.50 Extra Bed + Rs.65 Luxury charges http://www.hotelsudarsan.com would give you more details but the tariff given is slightly different. Shopping : There is a shopping complex ‘Jerome Nagar’ in less than 5 minutes walk wherein you get to buy almost everything. Everything is available within a reach of 5-15 minutes. Sight-seeing : Available for reasonable price. Majority of the hotel inmates were foreigners and for boating etc. short and long duration are available. Since our purpose of visit was different, we did not try anything, hence no comments. Attitude of local people: is very indifferent. Be prepared for an unpredictable strike, procession or dharna at anytime. If you plan to leave for railway station or bus stand though nearer or far (even if it is 10 minutes travel) give a minimum of 1-2 hour gap and reach the place well in advance. Even if the procession goes somewhere nearer to your destination none of the autos or taxis (includes the hotel) refuses to come. We had a very bitter experience. More » « Hide
