A last minute decision and a SOS call to our friend Biju at TWX Delhi for help and we were on our way to Ranthambhore National park all the way from Mumbai. Base Ranthambhore Regency hotel. Relishing Rawat ki kachori in Jaipur and with a mind for some adventure we boarded the Rajasthan roadways bus to Tonk and from there another connecting bus to Sawai Madhopur. We still managed to reach hotel at 1pm still an hour before the Safari pick up. We were given a very comfortable room in the corner of the main building, overlooking the pool. The welcome drinks were more than welcome at that time. The food was excellent. The restaurant captain informed very politely that the food is cooked with less oil and not very spicy. He requested us to inform him if we wanted spicier food he would get it done in the kitchen for us. But we liked what was served, mild on spices but very tasty. Special thanks to all the staffs of the restaurant, the captain and Anilji who keeps on running between the tandoor to tables only to make sure that all the guests are served piping hot rotis!! One of the much "consulted website" had various posts from travellers about the Kursewong Tourist Lodge. Many complained about the service, pace and age of the waiters. Someone on honeymoon even complained about the thinness of the walls of the rooms and the snoring of the fellow guest in the next room! But still we decided to go ahead and took a chance with this lodge run by West Bengal Tourism. And we werent disappointed. The rooms were newly renovated. They offer super view of the mountains. The food served in the restaurant was awesome; specially the momos. They were heavenly! The "Old waiters" were didnt disappoint either. They were courteous and helpful. Just one suggestion for the lighting in the rooms which we informed the lodge staffs also, there should be some yellow lighting in the room. A yellow bulb gives a warm feeling to a wooden finished room. Hopefully when we go next, we get to see a warm light welcoming us inside the rooms. More » « Hide

A place marred by insurgency; a place which seldom finds a place in an ordinary holiday itinerary yet a place so vibrant in culture and rich in natural beauty. Imphal, the Manipur state capital is much more than what it generally occupies headlines for! More » « Hide
