Railways go hi-tech

Indian Railways have come up with an interesting offer for its ever-growing travel community. Railways are now going hitech with satellite-based internet facility in premier trains. RailTel Corporation of India Limited, an undertaking under the Ministry of Railways, is coming up with internet and other related facilities to create a nation wide Broadband Telecom and Multimedia Network.


With this, travelers will be able to enjoy the train journey and not worry about any urgent communication with home or office (?!!) and get entertained while on a long journey.

The Indian Railways is also coming up with audio and video entertainment system and DTH services to make one's journey fun and interesting.

 
     
     
 

Soon premier trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi will have internet facilities with its various features. A trial run in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express is underway.

Railways will soon have uninterrupted Internet entertainment Services throughout its journey on all routes provided by the Internet Service Provider Railtel.

Multiple Internet providers for uninterrupted and hassle-free internet connection.
 
250 Cyber Cafes on Railway Stations across the country. These air-conditioned Cyber Cafes will offer Internet browsing, Internet telephony, Scanning of documents, Video conferencing, Audio video chatting, printing of documents and CD writing, etc. This facility is already functional in New Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Gorakhpur, Asansol, Jhansi and Pune.
   
Reaction to the new Feature
  Shree Padre from Mangalore, environmentalist and journalist said, "Though I don't carry a laptop always, I think one can make best use of travel time with this facility.''
   
  Immigration consultant Jyothi S from Mumbai thought it was an innovative idea, ''It's a nice idea. Good to have hi-tech railways, we can look forward to our travel time too while on a holiday. It'll keep my young daughter occupied.''
