We had an awesome experience by train. We boarded the train at 10 pm from Bangalore Station and the trip was peaceful. Make sure to get up by 5:00 as the scenic beauty is fantastic. Instead of spending on the hotel we freshened up at Mangalore Station itself as the facilities were pretty clean. From Mangalore we took a private cab for an awesome road trip to Gokarna.

There are two stations in Mangalore (Mangalore Central and Mangalore Junction) and luckily we have reached the station 1 hr early. The point is you have to make sure from which station you have booked the train, because the autowalas always take you to the station, which you don't expect.

The second major point to post is always read the caution boards on the beach, regarding high tides and baby stingrays.

Journey was good but the train came a little late just about 10 minutes but itís ok. Food served in the train was not that much of quality, so bring your own food if possible. So if you want to travel from Bangalore to Mangalore, with no hurry, then I suggest you to better go by train with sleeper coach. You can get confirmed tickets if you book it 3-4 days before the journey. It worked atleast for me. I started my journey at 8 pm in the morning and reached Mangalore by 8.30 am.

The journey from bangalore to mangalore by train is no less than heaven. Early morning 5 am, when I saw outside through window, I felt as if I was in a flight and was on the layers of Cloud. The train may be a little late as it travels on the hills and there are lot of chances of landslide, but its worth travelling by that train. I had travelled in third A/c but i would suggest to travel in sleeper so that you can enjoy the view right from our seat. I should tell its the best journey I have had
