"Leisurely drive through Nagarhole Forest"
Travelled by: Car
Travelled as: Family
We went to Wayanad by Bangalore- Mysore- Hunsur- Nagarhole- Kutta- Wayanad route. The idea was to beat traffic and have a leisurely drive through the forest. It is recommended to fill fuel at Hunsur or before since once you enter Nagarhole forest for about 50 km and there are no petrol bunks. The roads were in good condition throughout. We could spot deer, jackals &and peacock on our way. Entry to the forest road is from 6 am to 6 pm only.

"Well-maintained roads but with not accurate signages "
Travelled by: Car
Travelled as: Group
Initially we were lost in the forest area around Karnataka Border. But, we could make our way. Waynad is really exotic and the roads are well-maintained all along. Though the signages are not that accurate, they are quite okay to keep a track. Thanks to the Tourism department and the locals are helpful too. One can enjoy a trip without hassles.

If you have kids then better you go by car and better you book a big car it will be a comfortable one, for five people we booked an Alto, so it was ok only, but sometimes with kids you want to have more space. We left home early and we thought that we can visit few places on the same day, but it was a badluck only that car got punctured before Mysore and it took one hour. Then we went to Tiger Reserve Sanctuary near to Mysore but it was closed by 10 am, and we reached by 10:15 am, fully disappointed. Then finally we moved to Wayanad only but there also at border toll tax registration took almost 3 hours. Everyone was waiting they did not put any good arrangement for that. For everyone that day was spoiled. Finally we reached Wayanad at 3:30 pm, though we were suppose to reach almo ...Read More

"You would love the road ... feel the thrill "
Travelled by: Car
Travelled as: Group
We had an extremely bad driver, he was not at all friendly and so our journey wasn\\\'t all that great. But we did try to have our fun by playing some games in the car. The roads are great throughout. There\\\'s only a stretch near the resort which is a little bad but that is hardly 1 km. If you can travel by road in Bangalore, you will love the roads to Wayanad. Not many very good restaurants on the way. Best is to probably eat at Mysore. We had seen Mysore earlier so we didn\\\'t get out to see anything there but you can see the Palace and the Park with the musical fountain.

"Bus travel to Wayanad"
Travelled by: Bus
Travelled as: Family
We were 16 persons travelling from Bangalore to Wayanad in a 20 seater bus and it was all comfortable. We have arranged breakfast from Kamat Yatri Nivas and when we arrived there, it was packed ready to take and the service was very good. Only delay we experienced is at the check-post at Muthanga where our vehicle was stranded for payment of entry tax to Kerala. There was only one clerk available and he was collecting the tax at snail\'s speed. During our return journey, the AC unit gave us some trouble but, thanks to the comfortable climate at Mysore and Bangalore for supporting us without much sweat. Overall to and fro journey was good.

"Comfortable journey and good amenities "
Travelled by: Bus
Travelled as: Family
The bus was a Tri-Axle/Multi-Axle Volvo bus with comfortable leg room and Air-condition. The bus was supposed to leave Shanti Nagar Bus Stop at 22:30 hrs but owing to traffic at entering it left at 22:45 hrs. The journey was smooth on the 4 lane road to Mysore. Since the bus did not have night permit into Bandipur, it took a detour route via Hunsur and Mananthawadi, owing to which the journey time was almost 90 minutes more than actual which was mentioned on KSRTC site. The journey completed at 5:45 Am at Kalpetta as against the mentioned time of 6 Am. Staff were courteous in waking up passengers at the destinations and helping with luggage and seats. Though TV was there, they did not put it on owing to night travel to ensure everyone slept peacefully in the journey.

The journey was comfortable and AC temperature was maintained. These Volvo buses are good. Speakers too were loud for those seated below and around. So, please add more speakers. The hotel stop was good. Unfortunately on the return trip the toilets were under maintenance. The wash place after visiting the toilet was in the hotel which was very unhygienic.

We were a group of six so required a mini van. We decided to leave Bangalore by 11.00 AM on Saturday so that one day leave can be saved with some adjustment. Getting out of Bangalore was a bit difficult and it was almost 12.30 by the time we reached the outskirts. We decided to take the KRS route to Hunsur. The road is being redone for a distance of 5 km. But otherwise the road is good. From Hunsur we took the Nagarhole route with a short break at Nagarhole exit. We were in Thirunelli temple by 5.00 PM. Spent two hours there including visit to Papanashini and then to Mananthavady for overnight stay. This is 30 km from Thirunelli.

From there its around 45 km to resort and 20 km inside from main Kozhikode highway. Roads were in excellent condition and driving was pleasant and took around six hours to reach resort.

Travelled by: Car

If you go by your own vehicle, the journey can be a little tiring. It took us almost 7 hrs from Bangalore to reach Wayanad. Its better to start early morning so that you can reach by noon. The road from Mysore to Wayanad is very good and there is very nice scenery on offer on both sides. If you are planning to have food the best options are available on the Bnagalore-Mysore route. Afterwards there are not many good hotels available.

Travelled by: Bus

We left our office premises around 12'o clock at night and the plan was to reach Wayanad early morning and check-in the resort. The bus was on time at the pick-up point. The seats were so comfortable to sleep and the driver was also good. One problem was we booked a bus in Wayanad as it is a hill station, bus was never a good option. Roads were so small and because of that we were not able to visit many remote places.

Travelled by: Car
Travelled as: Couple
The roads are in excellent conditions, best part is we didn\\\'t pay any toll for the entire journey... a rarity in India. We spotted deers and elephants on our way back in the forest reserve! The road has good signage; the people of Kerala are very helpful to tourists. Anyone who cannot read Malaylam/ Kannada can drive to reach the location as all the boards are in English too. The highway has plenty of F&B options between Bangalore- Mysore highways. Once you reach Kerala (by crossing the forest reserve), you will get F&B only when you reach main city points.

We had been in the Tempo Traveller (TT). We were 12 of us and two kids. Though we thought it to be compact, the travel was good. We did not find it difficult. The luggage was adjusted at the back and some smaller bags below the seats.Make sure you reach Bandipur by 6 am and cross Bandipur by 6 pm. We had breakfast in Mysore at Siddharth hotel. I enjoyed Pongal. One of my favourites and they had prepared it very very well. TT costed us Rs. 12 per km. Though it will be 13 during seasons. And especially since the TT person was known to us. We would travel regularly through that operator. Very nice operator. You will need to pay Rs. 1000/- at the Karnataka, Kerala border. If its anything bigger than TT, it will cost 5000-6000/-

We got to spot a lot of elephants in Muthanga. The journey was really nice and green, esp on entering Mutunga and onwards. Excellent drive through the jungle from Gudulpet to Sultanbatery. Its very silent drive and you can find elephants and deers very often. But very careful when you drive through the jungle never stop on road because of elephants, they are more in this jungle and there are lots of speed breakers on the road as well. So be careful while driving.

Very nice road from Bangalore till Mysore and they have a double road till then. From Mysore the road forms a single line road, but road is good with less traffic after Nanajangud, which is just 15 km from Mysore. You can drive decently within a speed of 60-50 km/hour. Road is good till Waynad. After Gundlepet you are going to enter Bandipur forest and if you drive slow without honking, you can see good number of forest animals like deer\'s, elephants, tigers, snakes ETc.

Riding in your own vehicle to Wayanad is a beauty. You can enjoy the ride along with breathtaking views and falls. So plan properly and keep full tank of fuel before you travel anywhere in Kerala. Roads are very good but little narrow.

Had a stay at Mysore first. Hence, took Bangalore-Mysore road and further to Wayanad through Bandipur forest. The road is great for the whole stretch. Don't follow google maps if you are a fan of it for the last 50 kms. It routes to you a wrong path. Resort authorities will correctly guide you with the milestones for the last stretch once you cross Kerala border. Ensure you follow it closely. I was lost for around 2 hours after I went to a different direction as per google maps. :) For a long stretch, you won't get anything to eat. Ensure you have some food in stock. Carry trekking material.

Amazing forest with beautiful scenes and greeneries and road is maintained as you can go about 130-140km/hr (not advised for anyone\\\'s safety). After Mysore you will not find any food as most of your journey passes through forest and hilly areas. You will find lots of animals monkeys mostly while passing through forest. It is advisable not to stop your vehicle and come outside and do not feed spicy food to them.

Drove to Wayanad via Mysore. Until Kerala border is reached you can see thick beautiful forests of Bandipur. Sure to spot elephants, deer by the road. Once you cross Kerala border it becomes all plantations but still a very nice drive through them. Try to take the Kanakapura road if you need to go to Mysore since its a less busy road than Mysore road.

Your own car will help you to save a lot time and make the plan more flexible. The roads are good, as all know make sure you have better tires, a reserve tire, documents, vehicle checked for long drive. In some areas I have met issues like uneven road and less ground clearance ( I was using lancer). I would like to alert you guys while driving in hill areas. In 3-4 days I have seen many accidents due to careless/fast driving. When you drive in hill area its different skills, in a sharp curve, down the gear along with your brakes. So just observe and adapt the driving method or it may end up with a bad moments in your life.

During the onward journey, we travelled in multi axle semi sleeper. This bus was not so great. It was just average. I suggest to take the sleeper coach as the fare difference is not much. The bus halts before entering the forest zone until 6 AM in the morning. It halted for almost 2 hours as we reached there at 4 AM. But as sun rises by 6 AM, you can expect to see elephants, deers during your journey through the forest zone. During our return journey we took KSRTC sleeper coach. The KSRTC sleeper coach was excellent. We liked the seating arrangement in the bus. However in our return journey to Bangalore the bus got delayed and came after 12 in the night and we had to wait on the road as there was no proper bus stand in Kalpetta.

There is no office or information center near the bus stand for KSRTC and Kerala transport employees will not give you any information about the bus. I was so much worried this time about the bus arrival. When I reached bus stand in 8 PM evening, I saw many people like me standing in the anxiety, not sure about the bus. The bus arrived exact 5 min before the departure. Afterwards I got to know their was a conflict between the Karnataka and Kerala transport departments. But we reached on time, that is the brighter side of the story!

The journey to Wayanad from Bangalore was good. We have to take the route to Mysore and from Mysore ring road, we have to take the route to Sulthan Bathery. It needs to go through the forest. The gates open at 6 am and closes by 9 pm. Hence plan accordingly.

"Bangalore to Wayanad by bus"
Travelled by: Bus
Travelled as: Group
There are quite a few of us who travel across city and state borders in buses- government as well as private players. We have our own choices and preferences and sometimes we are left with nothing but to take what\'s available. Travellers are spoilt for choices in certain routes such as Bangalore-Chennai, Bangalore-Hyderabad, Chennai-Coimbatore, Mumbai-Pune, etc., while there are just a handful of good services between certain other places. Let this thread be a place to share our experiences on such inter-city/ inter-state trips in buses. It would be a good place of information if these details are covered: Route, bus operator, booking method/agent, type and quality of the bus, cost, additional services, such as pickup/drop, food. Hope to see this thread serving its purpose in th ...Read More

"Should travel at your own risk"
Travelled by: Bus
Travelled as: Couple
The bus journey was comfortable as far as seats and AC concerned. But we accidentally left our jacket in the bus and when we called minutes later to get it back or during our journey back to Bangalore, they said they could not find it. Should travel at your own risk of valuables. The temperature inside the bus is very low, but they provide terrible blankets. They are of the size of towels rather than blankets.

Travelled as: Couple
The journey was good and the bus journey was pretty comfortable. Wayanad is a good hill station and on the way, you can see lush greenery. The weather was moderate and not too cold. The bus was very punctual and they guided us as to where we should get down to go to our destination.

"Awesome roads, except the Mysore highway humps"
Travelled by: Car
Travelled as: Group
Took the Bangalore - Mysore road. After Mysore need to cross Gundulpet and take a right before Bandipur. Continue straight to Sulthan Bathery. Roads are awesome except for the irritating humps on the Mysore highway. Best time to start from Bangalore would be around 2 AM, if you are interested in wildlife. Otherwise, leave at around 5 AM to avoid traffic jam on Mysore road.

It was good, roads are very nice in Kerala. Visited Museum, Muthunga Wildlife Sanctuary, view points and Banasura Dam. Banasura Dam is worth visiting. Hotels near sanctuary are decent. On return journey saw Elephant, Bison which made our journey a successful one.

"Roads are good until gundlupet"
Travelled by: Car
Travelled as: Family
Good roads till gundlupet, there is road work as on sept '15 from nanjangud to gundlupet. As soon as you enter Kerala the roads are single lane. Average you won't take more than 5.30 mins to get to Wayanad with an average speed of 80. With one short break in between.

"Staff was not helpful & bus was late by 10-15 minutes"
Travelled by: Bus
Travelled as: Couple
Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is typical of its style. You generally find little difficult to find your bus once you reach the bus-stop, so many buses going and coming. The bus was ok not bad, they did not start on time, was late by 10-15 minutes. Staff were ok but rude at times, not very helpful, but what else do you expect from KSRTC.

"Boring journey with lousy driver"
Travelled by: Car
Travelled as: Couple
Overall it was comfortable, we had a lousy driver which was our fault. It’s best to start early morning so that you reach there by lunch. The journey was boring until you reach the greenery section and then it gets exciting. At the toll gate as you enter Wayanad, there is always chaos and you must wait there a while.

"Fantastic drive on the Bandipur jungle route"
Travelled by: Car
Travelled as: Family
It was very fantastic drive between Bangalore-Mysore-Wayanad on the Bandipur jungle route!! It was just unforgettable travel memory. It was a rainy season and on the way wildlife visibility was very good. In between there was a forest gate and it closed by 6 pm. Actually we got struck in between but still enjoyed and had a temporary accommodation in between for a night..

"Plan to reach the destination before evening"
Travelled by: Car
Travelled as: Family
We started from bangalore -> gundelpet -> Wayanad, roads are good till sulthanbattery. After that it becomes challenging because of hilly road. I will recommended, reach the destination before evening itself. Those who love driving will enjoy it others please rent a cab.

"Excellent roads till Kushal Nagar"
Travelled by: Car
Travelled as: Family
Even though I went with family, liked the trip a lot. There are excellent roads till Kushal Nagar and then starts the real fun the ghati roads. It was entirely ghati road in Coorg and Wayannad. It continues till Bandipur after I exited Wayanad. A wonderful drive in thick forests with tea and mainly coffee plantations.

"Scenic route"
Travelled by: Car
Travelled as: Family
We started off at 6 am and didn\'t hit any traffic on our way out of Bangalore. Stopped for breakfast at one of the roadside dhabas. After about 50 km out of Mysore as we entered the nature reserve the route became very scenic. Arrived at Wayanad at around 4 PM just in time to relax with a cup of tea and watch the sunset from the lake.

I was able to enjoy the wildlife most of the time. My eyes captured many wild animals. The roads were also in good condition so it was a comfortable journey and they used to stop the bus and allotted sufficient time for food at a good hotel. The journey took around approximately 7 to 8 hours.

Enjoyed the mesmerizing natural beauty on my way to Wayanad. Visit was during monsoon period, hence had a full view of greenery i.e. nature at its best. Had view of clouds settling on the mountains. Suddenly heavy rain appeared on my to and fro journey. No heavy rush of vehicles after Mysore.

"Mysore road is best because road condition is good"
Travelled by: Car
Travelled as: Couple
Mysore road is best and best time to start is around 4 am in the morning, we took our scorpio and hit the road by around 4:30 am and the highway road condition is good. Breakfast stop can be chosen within Mysore and not beyond as we couldn't get any good hotels later. We took around 5.1/2 hours to reach safely into Wayanad.

We started from Bangalore at about 7 am in my car ( a Swift ). The roads were good till we crossed Mysore and till the entrance of the forest region. After that there was absolutely no road for about 40 kms, I don\'t know why the forest section was closed and we were asked to take a diversion.
