Mussoorie food, sight-seeing and shopping options
Try walking around...up the roads, down the valleys, rather than driving around in Mussoorie. The tibetan monastry (temple) in Happy Velley is worth a dekho, and walk up the small hillock where the prayer flags are. Serene place. Take a drive however to Dhanaulti. The views along the road are worth the drive and so is the 800 rupees you spend to hire the taxi. You may get a chatty driver like I did, fend off nosy questions with true lies. Shopping? I stuck to sightseeing and eating.

A WelcomHeritage property, Kasmanda Palace is one of the oldest buildings and was originally a part of the Christ church complex, which was built in 1836. Later it became the summer retreat of the royal family of Kasmanda. The hotel arranges for whitewater rafting, paragliding, treks, day picnics, bird watching, horse safari and escorted visits to Rajaji National Park. Kempty Falls, Gemshen Monastery and Bhadraj Temple are in close vicinity.

Kasmanda Palace has 15 heritage rooms and suites under the deluxe room, superior room, and royal room categories. All rooms have attached baths, multi-channel piped music, satellite TV and phone. The palace has a restaurant and a formal dining room both of which serve Continental, Indian, Chinese and regional cuisine. Other services offered are travel desk, room service, laundry, doctor on call, 24-hour front desk, baby-sitting, and conference facilities.
