Andaman & Nicobar Islands are group of islands and a Union Territory located in Indian Ocean. The capital of the territory is Port Blair, located in a small island in Andaman. Andaman Sea separates these islands from neighboring countries such as Indonesia which is just 150 km away from Andaman & Nicobar, Thailand and Burma. It is believed that the human habitation in the islands is probably since thousands of years. The earliest documentation found here dates back to 2000 years ago. Andaman & Nicobar is spread over 8250 km sq area and has population of 3, 58,152. There are 349 islands in Andaman & Nicobar in which only 38 are inhabited.The first known ruler of the islands was Rajendra Cholan from Chola dynasty. According to the Cholan inscription they named the island Nakkavaram which means land of naked peoples. The name Andaman has been probably derived from the name of Hindu god Hanuman.
