Haryana, situated in the northern part of the country was created off Punjab in 1966. With Chandigarh as its capital, Haryana shares its boundaries with states like Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh. A major part of the state belongs to the National Capital Region (NCR). Haryana is divided into four administrative regions, which are Rohtak, Ambala, Hissar and Gurgaon.Popularly called ‘Madhyama Dis’, Haryana is believed to be centre of the origin of the Hindu religion. The epic battle of the Mahabharata between the Pandavas and the Kauravas, was fought at Kurukshetra, a famous religious spot in Haryana. Haryana also holds some popular events like Surajkund Crafts Mela, Kurukshetra Festival, Mango Festival, etc. which add to the popularity of the state as a tourist destination.The many monuments, gardens, temples and adventure tourism destinations have added significantly to the tourism of Haryana.
