Jammu & Kashmir is India's northernmost state, sharing international borders with Pakistan and Tibet, with Himachal Pradesh to its south. It comprises three very different topographic and cultural regions: Jammu region, Kashmir Valley and Ladakh-Leh. Jammu
city is in the south of the state and is the only region that lies in
plains and foothills and is the capital of the state for winter. Kashmir Valley to the north of Jammu has higher elevations, encompassed by the Pir Panjal range on the west and parts of the Great Himalayas on the north east. Srinagar town, the heart of the valley is Jammu & Kashmir's summer capital. Ladakh region is a mountain desert terrain and takes up almost 2/3rds of J&K's territory from the centre to the east. If you can, then just come to Kashmir and let
| Overview of the destinationWe were 2 couples with 2 kids each in age group 2 to 8. We started with a flight from Delhi to Srinagar and thereafter Food, sight-seeing and shopping Srinagar is a beautiful place to be, we had options of hotel and houseboats, we preferred latter as hotels become boring and we had hotels Activities & things to do If in srinagar, shikara is a must - add water ski to it, (remember to bargain at rock bottom prices for every add on in Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. Don't buy shilajait or saffron from any roadside vendors, bargain heavy for shawls and other local items. | Kanupriya, Mumbai | 16th October 2008
