Kerala, occupying an area of approximately 38,863 sq km, is a state in the southern part of India. Known worldwide as 'God’s own country', the state has become a popular tourist destination on the world tourism map due to its lush greenery, calm backwaters and scenic beauty. Thiruvananthpuram is the state capital. Situated on the Arabian Sea, Kochi, formerly known as Cochin, is an important port town in Kerala.
