The Koshys of Chennai had been planning an extra-special summer vacation for a long time; they chose to sail out to the Andamans and enjoy marvels of the coral reefs and colourful underwater life.
The unique eco-system of the Andaman Islands covers three types of vegetation towering canopies of tropical rainforests, mangrove swamps, and coral reefs. It is a once in a lifetime experience to see the rich wildlife of all these habitats so close to each other.
You can marvel at the flora and fauna of some amazing uninhabited tropical islands by exploring the coast at Wandoor National Park It is located in South Island, 29 km from Port Blair. Regular boat trips take off from Wandoor village, and take you on a magical ride around lagoons, coral islands, sheltered coves and bays. You can see colourful tropical fish, exquisite coral formations, the giant robber crab, sea anemones, star fish and a myriad of other creatures. On the water surface, you can see dolphins at play.
MOUNTHARRIETNATIONAL PARK.
This national park is in South Island, 10 km from Port Blair. It is surrounded by some of Andaman's highest mountain peaks and has dense evergreen forests. The park is a birdwatcher's delight and you can stay at the forest guesthouse on top of MountHarriet for fantastic views. There are several well-marked trekking trails in the area too. One of them leads to the MadhubanBeach where you can watch domestic elephants being trained for the timber industry.
