| Alisha and Harsh Trivedi decided to go to the pretty sea-side town of Vishakapatnam for their honeymoon. There was a sentimental reason behind it as Harsh's parents had also had their honeymoon here 35 years ago. This coastal city, also known as Vizag for short, is the second-largest port in India and bustling with activity. The older area known as Waltair, still retains a laid back charm and has some idyllic beaches with a rocky seafront along the ocean. Waltair was the railway hub during the British times and still has a lot of colonial nostalgia. |

The beauty of Vizag's beaches is the rocky cliff formations, and the forested Eastern Ghats in the background, while in front stretches the blue waters of the Bay of Bengal. Ramakrishna Beach, Rishikonda Beach and Lawson's Bay are some of the beautifulspots.
From Vizag you can also explore some interesting temples on the northern coastal stretch. The Lion's Hill temple or Simhachalam is 16 km north of Vizag. This temple dedicated to Varaha is on the top of the forested Ratnagiri Hill. A drive further down this spectacular coastal road takes you to the former Dutch settlement of Bheemunipatnam. There are old Dutch houses and the ruins of a fort here. The Dutch cemetery has some very interesting tombstones. The Borra Caves 100 km north of Vizag have some spectacular stalagmites and stalactites. Many of these were worshipped as shiva lingams and have Nandi bulls placed in front of them. | | |
